Within Light Studio is an architectural lighting design consultancy that specializes in high-end and lifestyle hospitality, residential and retail design with projects around the world. We are seeking a Senior Lighting Designer and Project Manager for one of our studios in either Chicago or Los Angeles. The ideal candidate is passionate about lighting, always thinking about the light that surrounds us, highly creative with big ideas, artistic skills, technical knowledge, and the ability to understand the subtlety and detail required to execute local and international upscale hip projects. As an integral part of our team, you will be helping us to grow and get more exciting projects worldwide.  You will be participating in all aspects of the projects, from schematic design through completion.  Your role involves working directly with the partners to develop lighting design concepts as well as leading junior designers to complete deliverables.  




  • Have a minimum of 4 years of experience in the Lighting Design industry.

  • Be proficient in AutoCAD, Dialux or AGI32, MS Office or Google Suite (Excel/Word), and Adobe Suite (Photoshop/InDesign). Revit is a plus.

  • Have working knowledge to create lighting layouts, lighting calculations, lighting fixture schedules, lighting specifications, control zone schedules, and control equipment schedules.

  • Be familiar with energy codes.

  • Possess detailed knowledge of lighting sources, manufacturers, and fixtures.

  • Have the ability to develop and coordinate lighting details that integrate with architectural and interior systems.

  • Manage a project from schematic design, through design development, construction documentation, and construction administration, to final focusing and programming.

  • Be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

  • Be comfortable meeting and presenting to clients.

  • Have experience communicating with the project team.

  • Be able to lead and train junior lighting designers.

  • Have onsite experience reviewing and modifying real-time design with contractors.

  • Have a strong sense of design, be self-directed, good time manager, responsible, organized, good listener, quick learner, team player, and collaborative.
